A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Pediatrics at University of Tennessee Health Science Center. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Aristotelis Astreinidis, on designing and conducting scientific experiments in the field of cancer research, which explore the biochemical, signal transduction, and genetic/gene expression mechanisms leading to tumorigenesis in Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), sporadic Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), and renal cancer. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to independently design and execute scientific experiments including cell biology (cell and tissue culture, microcopy, immunofluorescence, cell-based assays), molecular biology (cloning, DNA and RNA work, PCR, RT-qPCR), biochemistry (immunoblotting, kinase assays), and mouse studies (husbandry, setup breeding schemes, genotyping, aseptic methods, drug administration, tumor growth studies, small animal imaging), to contribute intellectually to research projects, to prepare and submit competitive fellowship applications, and to assist the PI with writing manuscripts and grant applications. Team player spirit and a dedicated attitude toward scientific progress and excellence are an absolute must. Qualifications Applicants should be very skillful in setup, care and use of laboratory instrumentation, and have the ability to develop new, or improve existing, methodologies. Excellent communication, time-management, organizational and interpersonal skills, and fluency in English (both oral and written) are required. Applicants should have demonstrated scientific productivity, and have a strong publication record. Applicants should have a PhD in the biomedical sciences, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related field. Prior knowledge and experience with cell culture manipulation and animal model experimentation is essential. This position requires substantial experience in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, signal transduction, and the subsequent analysis of resulting data. Expertise in animal studies, including mouse colony management, aseptic methods, drug administration, and small animal imaging is highly desirable. Scientific writing skills for manuscripts and grant applications are essential. Necessary Qualifications: A. Education: PhD in biomedical sciences, with a strong background in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. A background in the field of cancer biology would complement ongoing studies. B. Experience: Prior work with cell culture, immunoblotting, immunofluorescence microscopy, cell-based assays, RNA/DNA/protein extraction, PCR, RT-qPCR, cloning, mouse colony management, mouse drug administration (SQ, IP, IV), small animal imaging. Grant and manuscript writing experience is a plus. C. Job Skills: Exceptional record keeping, organizational, time-management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work within a team and collaborate with other teams. D. Physical Requirements: He/she must be able to stand at laboratory counter, walk around the University campus, and work in an animal facility. Application Information: Interested candidates please apply through UTHSC website, and email a copy of their CV including contact information of three references and a cover letter to Dr. Aristotelis Astreinidis.
